Emerging Bronx artist Cybando, born Cyrus Anderson, presents his latest album, "Closer Than Before," arriving August 14, 2026. The project serves as a snapshot of personal and artistic evolution during a period of growth that followed a significant breakup. Rather than dwell in despair, Cybando crafts songs that balance heartfelt emotion with rhythmic energy, inviting listeners to dance even amidst healing.
"Closer Than Before" wasn’t originally planned as a project and only partly grew from songs that didn’t make his forthcoming album "Therapeutic Heartbreak," which he has carefully developed over years. This new album captures moments of vulnerability paired with resilience, reflecting the complexity of navigating life’s challenges while continuing to create and celebrate.
The album’s production is a blend of established collaboration and fresh partnerships. Longtime collaborator Louinreality opens the project, anchoring its foundation. Rising producer Dericktowavy brings a revitalizing force, contributing to much of the album’s early tracks developed within a week. Diorr, Cybando’s creative right-hand, further shapes the soundscape, with their strong chemistry creating standout moments; Cybando says, "we feel like we haven’t made a bad song together yet" and the two could potentially pursue a collaborative project in the future.
Sonically, the record charts unexpected territory, particularly in its closing three songs where Cybando delves into alternative R&B — a stylistic shift Cybando was initially skeptical about, unsure how Cybando/his audience would react to experimenting with that sound.
Visually and conceptually, Cybando draws inspiration from icons like Michael Jackson, particularly the legendary "Thriller" album cover. This homage underscores Cybando’s emphasis on authenticity and showing one’s true artistic identity rather than creating a facade, and the importance of fully committing to one’s identity without pretense.
