After two years working behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer, YI is introducing himself as a recording artist with his debut single, “Just Give Me Something to Believe.” Released on April 15, 2026, the track marks a personal and polished first statement from the artist also known as Yichao Liu.
Written and produced by YI himself, “Just Give Me Something to Believe” began during a hike at Runyon Canyon. The song reflects the emotional weight of a long-distance relationship, transforming that personal experience into an electronic-pop release built around melody, atmosphere, and carefully shaped production.
YI’s background as a producer is central to the record’s sound. In addition to writing and producing the single, he handled the programming and blended electronic pop textures with organic instrumentation, including strings and acoustic guitars. Indian singer Aki Arora also contributed backing vocals, adding another layer of warmth and depth to the track. The final mix was handled by Billboard-charting engineer Matty Harris.
The result is a debut that balances modern pop precision with an intimate emotional core. Before stepping forward under the name YI, Liu wrote and produced for multiple artists under the name Pivotor. One notable credit is “You Are Not the One,” written and produced for American singer Leanna Baxter, which reached the semifinalist stage of the 2025 International Songwriting Competition.
